The whole platform is MPL-2.0. Self-host it for nothing, or let us host it. We expect most people to stay on the free tier — that is the point, not a failure.
What is actually different between Free and Pro?
Two limits differ. Private bundles: Free 2, Pro 50 — your Liked list is a private bundle and counts as one from the moment you open your Library, so Free leaves room for one more. API keys: Free 1, Pro 10 — one key works on every machine; separate keys let you revoke one machine or client without touching the rest. A few little-used hosted endpoints (skill forks, draft-to-skill, sync streaming and some others) also require Pro; don't buy it for those, they may be retired.
Every catalog skill is free on both tiers, and installing or updating a bundle on your machines works the same on both: re-run the install whenever you like. Public bundles are unlimited on both — we never ration publishing, because a shared bundle helps everyone. Pro exists for people keeping one private bundle per client, or wanting separate keys they can revoke one at a time; if that is not you, Free is not a trial and does not expire.

Common questions
What is the difference between Self-host and Free?
Who runs the server. Self-host means you clone the repo and run everything on your own hardware, and we never see your data. You still sign in to your own server (GitHub OAuth) to mint an owner key, and it ships with the same default limits — but they live in config/tiers.yaml on your server, so you can raise them. Free means we run it for you and you get an account with 2 private bundles and 1 API key. Both cost nothing; with self-host, updates, uptime and the runner sandbox are your job.
What is the Founding Member offer?
A launch-day, one-time $49 payment for permanent Pro — not a subscription, never renews, never expires. Capped at 100 seats. Once the counter on this page hits 0, the offer is gone and the button stops working; there is no waitlist or re-open.
Is LoopSkill really open source? What's the catch?
Yes — the whole platform is MPL-2.0. You can self-host the registry, the runner, and the catalog on your own hardware for free, forever. There is no feature locked behind Pro that the self-host does not have. On the hosted service, Pro raises two limits (private bundles and API keys) and funds the hosting. A few little-used hosted endpoints (skill forks, draft-to-skill, sync streaming and some others) also require Pro; don't buy it for those, they may be retired.
I only need a couple of bundles. Should I pay?
No. If you are not hitting the 2-private-bundle cap (your Liked list uses one of the two) and one API key covers all your machines (and you don't rely on one of the legacy Pro-gated endpoints: skill forks, draft-to-skill, sync streaming and some others), Free covers you and we would rather you stayed on it — we expect most people to. And if a private git repo with symlinks already keeps your skills in sync, that works too and costs nothing. Upgrade when the cap actually gets in your way — not before.
Does my install stop working if I cancel Pro?
No. The skills you have already installed keep running on your machine — they live locally, not in our cloud. Cancelling drops you back to the Free limits for private bundles; nothing is deleted and nothing stops executing. You can also switch to the free self-host and keep everything.
Why are public bundles unlimited on every tier?
Because a public bundle helps other people find good skills, and rationing that would be self-defeating. We cap private bundles because those are the ones that consume hosted storage on our side for one person's benefit.
Is this a real subscription or one-time?
Pro is a real monthly subscription handled by Stripe; cancel anytime. The one exception is the Founding Member offer above: a single one-time payment, not a subscription. EU VAT is included (Stripe Tax). Receipts come from Stripe — we never custody your money. Written terms: /terms.
